The purpose of the Shoot Straight Gun Rental Policy is to establish and outline the guidelines and requirements for renting firearms to customers. It will address the entire rental process, including criteria required of customers who wish to rent a firearm, documentation requirements, the firearms to be used for rentals and the maintenance schedule of the rental guns. Shoot Straight, for the purposes of this policy, will include all Shoot Straight retail locations, shooting ranges and staff.
Rental Policy Process
The following criteria will be a requirement of any customer wishing to rent a firearm from Shoot Straight. At the time of rental, the customer must be over the age of 21 and meet at least one of the following criteria:
- Have an operational firearm with them
- Have a valid concealed weapons permit (Cannot be Expired)
- Be accompanied by another person who has an operational firearm and who is over the age of 21
Proof of these criteria will be validated by a Shoot Straight employee and include documenting which of the qualifying criteria have been met, then signed and dated by both the employee and the rental customer.
If a customer cannot meet the above criteria, the firearm rental will be denied. Once the above criteria can be properly established, the rental process may proceed as outlined in the following paragraphs.
A rental customer will be required to obtain a range membership at Shoot Straight at the current pricing. A 30-day membership meets the minimum requirement of this policy, but longer term memberships also qualify. A range membership will include one free gun rental. Any additional gun rentals must then be paid for by the customer at current rental pricing. A membership form must be completed prior to the rental.
Completion of a Range Liability Waiver is the next requirement in the process. This form must be filled out completely, signed and dated by the customer prior to use of the range and the rental of a firearm. Additionally, the Shoot Straight employee must review this form for completeness.
Shoot Straight will provide a Gun Rental Agreement Form to the qualified rental customer. The rental agreement outlines the Rental Terms, Customer Covenants and Warranties, Disclosure Risks, additional Waiver and Release information, Indemnity, and other miscellaneous information. The customer must review and fill out the form completely, agree to the requirements of the rental agreement, then sign and date the form as required.
All of the above outlines the qualifying criteria, documentation and other requirements of the gun rental process. A Shoot Straight employee must review all noted documentation for completeness and ensure all qualifying criteria have been met prior to the rental of a firearm.
Rental Firearm Inventory
At each location, a designated group of firearms will be identified by Shoot Straight as rental guns. Models may vary among locations and guns may be added to and withdrawn from the designated group of rental guns as needed. Ammunition used in the rental firearms must be purchased from Shoot Straight, which also meets the ammunition requirements as outlined in the Rental Terms section of the Firearm Rental Agreement. The rental guns are for use at the local Shoot Straight shooting ranges only and are to be used in compliance with all Shoot Straight Range Rules, policies, agreements and safety requirements.
Maintenance of Rental Firearms
On a regular basis, rental guns will be cleaned and inspected for safety and proper functionality. However, Shoot Straight makes no warranties on any firearm and the customer assumes all risk in the use of the firearm.
Before and after every rental of a firearm, a Shoot Straight employee will inspect the gun to make sure it is clear and unloaded before handing it to a customer and again when returning it to the rental gun inventory.
Firearms that have been rented or used by a customer will be inspected bi-weekly to monthly, based on use. Cleaning and inspection will occur more often if:
- A particular rental firearm is experiencing a high rate of use
- A customer or employee has indicated any potential problem or safety issue with a rental firearm
